RTV-2 Silicones – Two-component silicones for mold making, medical technology, and industrial applications

RTV-2 silicones (Room Temperature Vulcanizing, two-component) consist of a base component and a curing agent that vulcanize at room temperature after mixing to form an elastic elastomer. They are the standard material for mold making, prototyping, medical applications, and industrial potting.

Addition cross-linking vs. condensation cross-linking

Additionsvernetzende Silikone (platinkatalysiert) bieten höchste Masstreue, geringen Schrumpf (<0,1 %) und sind lebensmittel- sowie hautverträglich. Sie eignen sich für Präzisionsabformungen, Medizinprodukte und die Lebensmittelindustrie. Typische Produkte: Bluesil RTV 141, RTV 3428, RTV 3450, SILISIL MF-Serie.

Condensation-curing silicones are more cost-effective and easier to process. They are suitable for large molds, construction applications, and applications that do not require strict dimensional accuracy. Typical products: Bluesil RTV 3221, RTV 3325, SILISIL PC series.

As an official distributor of Elkem Bluesil, we carry the complete RTV-2 product line: from low-viscosity casting silicones (RTV 3428, viscosity 12,000 mPa·s) to self-leveling potting compounds and high-viscosity kneading silicones. The Silbione series(RTV 4411, 4420) is available for medical applications.

Areas of application

RTV-2 silicones are used in architectural model making, prosthetics and podiatry, the encapsulation of electronic assemblies, the aerospace industry, and tool and mold making. Depending on the type, their temperature resistance ranges from –60 °C to +250 °C.
