Primers and bonding agents for silicones

Silicone primers significantly improve the adhesion of RTV-1 and RTV-2 silicones to difficult substrates. Without a primer, silicones often do not adhere sufficiently to metals, glass, ceramics, and many plastics—with a primer, adhesion strengths are achieved that exceed the silicone’s cohesive strength.

How silicone primers work

Primers create a chemical bond between the substrate and the silicone. They are applied in a thin layer, dry within minutes, and are then ready for silicone application. The choice of primer depends on the substrate and the type of silicone (addition-curing or condensation-curing).
