CAF 7037 MF Silicone Elastomer – a flowable, MEKO-free coating silicone for industrial and electronic applications
Elkem’s CAF 7037 MF is a one-component silicone elastomer with neutral, oxime-curing properties—specifically in the MEKO-free version. MEKO (methyl ethyl ketoxim) was the standard cross-linking agent for neutral silicones for decades, but has been on the REACH Candidate List since 2020 as a substance suspected of causing cancer (CLP category Carc. 2). With CAF 7037 MF, Elkem has developed a fully-fledged replacement based on alternative oxime chemistry that retains the technical advantages of neutral curing—no acetic acid release, no corrosion on copper conductors, low odor—while being regulatory-compliant for the future.
The product is flowable (Brookfield 50,000 mPa·s) and colored brick red. The color serves as a visual processing indicator: In facilities where multiple silicones are used, CAF 7037 MF can be distinguished at a glance from white or transparent products. With a Shore A hardness of 24, an elongation at break of 400 percent, and a tensile strength of 2.1 MPa, the material falls within the soft, flexible range—ideal for coatings that must accommodate thermal and mechanical movements.
What is the CAF 7037 MF typically used for?
The primary areas of application are in industrial coating. The continuous coating of conveyor belts for heat-stressed conveying systems is the classic application—here, the low viscosity, the long skin formation time of 25 to 30 minutes, and the high release capacity come into play. In electric motor manufacturing, CAF 7037 MF is used to insulate windings and components—the combination of a neutral, copper-friendly curing system and excellent dielectric properties (dielectric strength 19 kV/mm, volume resistivity 2×10⁵ Ω·cm) is crucial here. Other applications include sealing cast iron parts, sealing air filters, and screen printing (silk screening) of gaskets —a technique in which flat gaskets are printed directly onto the component and cure in place.
How should CAF 7037 MF be applied correctly?
CAF 7037 MF is ready to use and is applied to a clean, dry surface using a squeegee, roller, spray gun, or screen printing. Its long pot life of 25 to 30 minutes makes the product particularly suitable for larger coating jobs that must be completed in a single pass—by comparison, CAF 1 forms a skin after just 7 minutes. The choice of primer depends on the substrate: CAF 7037 MF adheres to glass, enamel, ceramics, and epoxy paint without a primer. For aluminum and stainless steel, the Elkem primers Primer PM 131 or PM 820 are recommended; for plastics, PM 820 or PM 824. A 2 mm layer is fully cured after approximately 24 hours (4 mm film thickness), and final strength is achieved after 14 days.
Liability coverage
In the standardized lap shear test on AG3 aluminum with PM 820 primer (1 mm joint, 14 days at 23 °C / 50% RH), CAF 7037 MF achieves a shear strength of 0.9 MPa with a cohesive fracture pattern —the silicone itself tears before the interface with the metal fails. This makes the bond practically as strong as the vulcanized silicone itself. For optimal adhesion to metals, the use of a primer is mandatory; without a primer, adhesion to aluminum results only in adhesive failure, i.e., significantly weaker. As a soft, elastic material (modulus at 100% elongation only 0.5 MPa), CAF 7037 MF reliably compensates for temperature and vibration stresses between different substrates.
Storage and Containers
CAF 7037 MF can be stored in its unopened original packaging at temperatures between 2°C and +30°C for up to 12 months from the date of manufacture. Once opened, the contents should be used promptly. Standard packaging sizes are 25-kg buckets and 210-kg drums for industrial coating systems.
CAF 7037 MF is supplied by SILITECH AG with technical support, a batch certificate, and shipping from our Swiss warehouse within 24 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions About the CAF 7037 MF
Answers regarding the application, properties, and MEKO-free status of the CAF 7037 MF silicone elastomer.
MEKO (methyl ethyl ketoxim) used to be the standard cross-linking agent for neutral silicones, but has been on the REACH Candidate List since 2020 as a substance suspected of causing cancer (Carc. 2). CAF 7037 MF utilizes alternative oxime chemistry and is regulatory-compliant for the future —important for production sites with strict SVHC requirements, in proprietary products that come into contact with end customers, or for export to the EU after 2026.
The product was developed for coating applications: coating conveyor belts, insulating electric motors, sealing air filters and cast iron parts, as well as silk-screen seals (screen-printing of seals). The long skin formation time of 25–30 minutes and the low viscosity of 50,000 mPa·s are the key processing advantages.
At 23°C and 50% relative humidity, CAF 7037 MF takes 25 to 30 minutes to form a skin—about four times as long as CAF 1 (7 min) or CAF 730 MF (7 min). This long pot life allows for the coating of larger surfaces or multiple parts in a single operation. A 2 mm layer is fully cured after 24 hours (4 mm layer thickness), with final strength achieved after 14 days.
No. CAF 7037 MF is a neutral-curing silicone —it does not produce acetic acid, unlike acetate-curing silicones (CAF 1, CAF 4). As a result, the product is compatible with copper, brass, iron, and other metals without causing oxidation. This makes it particularly suitable for electronics and electric motor applications.
