CAF 730 MF Silicone Elastomer – a flexible, MEKO-free all-rounder for the aerospace, electronics, and maintenance industries
A key characteristic of CAF 730 MF is its combination of softness, elasticity, and thixotropy: Its Shore A hardness is just 25, and its elongation at break is 400 percent—the material remains elastic even after curing and can permanently accommodate component movement. Despite this softness, the paste does not run but remains in place after application—even on vertical and overhead surfaces. This property is indispensable for repair and maintenance work where the workpiece cannot be positioned optimally.
What is the CAF 730 MF typically used for?
The primary application is bonding and sealing in the aerospace industry. Housing seals, fluid lines, and onboard electrical systems are permanently bonded using CAF 730 MF—the MEKO-free formulation is particularly valued here because maintenance work takes place in enclosed cabin spaces. In electronics, CAF 730 MF protects and bonds sensitive components: neutral to copper, with a dielectric strength of 19 kV/mm and a volume resistivity of 4×10ⁿ⁵ Ω·cm—ideal values for flexible protective coatings. A third major application area is flexible bonds between metal and plastic parts: wherever components with different thermal expansion rates need to be joined, the high elasticity of CAF 730 MF compensates for the differences in expansion. In the transportation sector and in industrial maintenance, the product is widely used due to its ease of application and multi-substrate adhesion.
How should CAF 730 MF be applied correctly?
CAF 730 MF is ready to use in 100-g tubes and 310-ml cartridges—for manual application or with an automatic applicator. The paste is applied to one side of a clean, dry, grease-free surface, and the parts are then joined within the skin formation time of 7 minutes. A 2 mm-thick layer is fully cross-linked after 7 hours, and full cure depth reaches 4.6 mm after 24 hours. Primer selection depends on the substrate: self-adhesive on glass, enamel, and ceramics without primer; for aluminum and stainless steel, use primers PM 131, PP 878, PM 832 HR Pex, or PM 820 are recommended; for polyester, polyamide, ABS, polycarbonate, and PMMA, PP 878, PM 832 HR Pex, or PM 820 are also recommended.
Liability coverage
Adhesion performance is a prime example of the importance of using the right primer: On AG3 aluminum without primer, CAF 730 MF achieves only 0.2 MPa with an adhesive fracture pattern—the bond fails at the interface. With PM 820 or PP 878, the shear strength increases to 1.2 MPa with 100% cohesive fracture; on common plastics (polyester, polyamide, ABS, polycarbonate, PMMA) with primer, it also reaches 1.0 MPa with cohesive fracture. In both cases, therefore, the silicone itself tears before the bond to the substrate fails—the joint is effectively as strong as the cured material.
Thermal Properties
CAF 730 MF is resistant to continuous operation from −55°C to +200°C (measured on a 2 mm layer over 1,000 hours) and can withstand short-term exposure (up to 72 hours) to temperatures up to +225°C. The auto-ignition temperature is 430°C, and the thermal conductivity is 0.26 W/m·K—typical for filled RTV silicones and sufficient for moderate heat dissipation in electronic applications.
Storage and Containers
CAF 730 MF can be stored in its unopened original packaging at temperatures between 2°C and +30°C for up to 12 months from the date of manufacture. Store in a cool, dry place. Standard packaging: 100-g tube and 310-ml cartridge.
The CAF 730 MF is supplied by SILITECH AG with technical support, a batch certificate, and shipping from our Swiss warehouse within 24 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions About the CAF 730 MF
Answers regarding the application, processing, and MEKO-free properties of CAF 730 MF silicone sealant.
CAF 730 MF is a neutral-curing adhesive (oxime, MEKO-free), whereas CAF 1 and CAF 4 are acid-curing (acetate). Neutral means: no acetic acid odor, no corrosion on copper and iron alloys—ideal for electronics and enclosed spaces. CAF 730 MF is softer (Shore A 25 instead of 47 for CAF 1) and only permanently resistant up to +200°C (CAF 1: +225°C).
This product is a flexible, thixotropic all-purpose solution for aerospace bonding and sealing, electronics protection (copper-compatible), flexible metal-to-plastic joints, and industrial repair and maintenance work. The MEKO-free formulation is particularly suitable for use in enclosed cabins or in end-user products.
At 23°C and 50% relative humidity, CAF 730 MF forms a skin after 7 minutes. A 2-mm layer is fully cured after 7 hours, and the final cure depth reaches 4.6 mm after 24 hours. Higher humidity and temperature accelerate the process. Full strength is achieved after 7 days.
Without a primer, CAF 730 MF adheres only to glass, enamel, and ceramics. For permanent bonds on metals (aluminum, stainless steel), a primer (PM 820, PM 131, or PP 878) is essential—without a primer, the bond strength on aluminum AG3 reaches only 0.2 MPa with adhesive failure. With a primer, the shear strength increases to 1.2 MPa with 100% cohesive failure. The same primers apply to plastics (polyester, polyamide, ABS, polycarbonate, PMMA).
