SILISIL Silicone Fluid – Paintable Grade (paintable silicone fluid, CAS 68037-76-3)
100% active methylalkylaryl silicone fluid, release agent and lubricant that does not impair the paintability of components.
SILISIL Silicone Fluid — Paintable Grade (CAS 68037-76-3): paintable, organically modified silicone fluid.
Treated surfaces can be painted over and printed on—ideal for textile finishing, coatings, and specialty formulations. Available from our warehouse in Switzerland.
SILISIL Silicone Fluid — Paintable Grade (CAS 68037-76-3)
SILISIL Silicone Fluid Paintable Grade is an organically modified silicone fluid specifically developed for applications where the treated surface must remain suitable for subsequent painting, printing, or labeling. Unlike conventional polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS), which have a strong release effect and virtually prevent any subsequent coating from adhering to surfaces, Paintable Grade is formulated so that paints, printing inks, and water-based coatings can still adhere.
The product has CAS number 68037-76-3 and belongs to the group of organically modified silicones—a controlled hybrid structure in which dimethylsiloxane units are linked to organic chain elements. This preserves the beneficial properties of silicone (smoothness, water repellency, softness) without completely compromising wettability for subsequent coatings.
product benefits
- Surface can be painted or printed on after application
- Typical silicone texture and softness characteristics on textiles
- Water-repellent, without excessive hydrophobicity
- Low usage in formulations — high efficacy
- Compatible with water-based systems and emulsifiers
- Controlled penetration without surface sweating
- Odorless, colorless, and physiologically safe for technical applications
Typical Applications by Industry
- Textile finishing: Soft-hand finishing of apparel and home textiles intended for subsequent screen printing or sublimation printing
- Paper and cardboard coating: Smoothing and slip additive that does not interfere with coating adhesion
- Paint and Coatings Industry: Formulation component in paintable primer coatings and release coatings
- Release coatings with subsequent printing: Where a release function is desired, but the material must remain printable
- Care and household products: Silicone hybrid additive in polishes, sealants, and care emulsions
- Adhesive and sealant formulations: As a co-component when the composite must be paintable later
Processing and Compatibility
- Miscible with most organic solvents
- Emulsifiable with common nonionic and anionic surfactants
- Typical dosage: 0.5–5% in the final formulation, depending on the substrate and the desired effect
- Preliminary tests are strongly recommended, as paint adhesion depends heavily on the subsequent coating system
- In water-based systems, incorporate it preferably as a preformulated emulsion
Storage, Handling, and Shelf Life
- Store in original containers, in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight
- Recommended storage temperature: below 30 °C
- Unopened product remains stable for over 12 months — the specified shelf life is indicated in the TDS
- Avoid contact with eyes — see Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
Available sizes
- 1 kg bottle (sample bottle)
- 5-kg canister
- 25-kg canister

Frequently Asked Questions About SILISIL Paintable Grade
The most important answers regarding use, features, and handling.
"Paintable Grade" refers to an organically modified silicone fluid that allows the treated surface to be painted, printed on, or covered with adhesive later on. Pure PDMS silicone oils would prevent paint and ink from adhering; Paintable Grade is formulated so that the surface remains wettable.
CAS 68037-76-3 is the CAS number for an organically modified silicone copolymer composed of dimethylsiloxane units and organic chain elements. This hybrid structure combines typical silicone properties (smoothness, water repellency) with retained wettability for subsequent coatings.
SILISIL Paintable Grade is primarily used on textiles, paper, cardboard, release coatings, and in formulations related to paints and coatings. Since paint adhesion depends heavily on the final formulation, preliminary testing with the specific topcoat is strongly recommended.
SILISIL Silicone Fluid (Paintable Grade) is available from our Swiss warehouse in standard 1 kg bottles, 5 kg, and 25 kg containers. 200 kg drums are available upon request. We provide free samples for preliminary testing.
