Permabond® A1046 – High-strength assembly adhesive for permanent metal joints
Permabond® A1046 is a high-performance, anaerobic adhesive that has been specially developed for the permanent fastening and sealing of metal components. It replaces conventional mechanical fasteners such as screws or rivets and reliably protects bonded parts from vibration, fatigue, and corrosion.
The adhesive cures extremely quickly: it reaches handling strength after just a few minutes, functional strength after 30 minutes, and full final strength after 24 hours. Permabond® A1046 is ideal for assembling cylindrical metal components, fits, and threads up to M30, and offers high chemical and thermal resistance.
Thanks to its high torsional and shear strength, it is particularly suitable for demanding industrial applications where durable and resilient connections are required.
product features
- Reinforced acrylic adhesive for permanent metal joints
- Very fast curing at room temperature
- Gap filling capacity up to 0.25 mm, suitable for threads up to M30
- Handling strength after 5–10 minutes (M10 steel, 23 °C)
- Functional strength after 30 minutes, final strength after 24 hours
- Shear strength on steel: 25 MPa (ISO 10123)
-
Torsional strength (M10 steel, ISO 10964):
– Breakaway torque: 30 N·m
– Continuing torque: 50 N·m - Temperature resistance from –55 °C to over 200 °C (short term)
- Chemically resistant to oil, fuels, brake fluid, water/glycol, alcohols, and solvents
- Green-colored, fluorescent for inspection purposes
Suitable materials
- steel
- stainless steel
- zinc
- brass
- Copper and copper alloys
- Other active and inactive metals
Typical areas of application
- Installation of bearings, bushings, and shafts
- Fastening of gears, pulleys, and bolts
- Screw locking for high loads
- Sealing of threads and metal connections
- Replacement of mechanical connecting elements under vibration stress
- Mechanical and plant engineering, vehicle construction, pumps and motors
Processing instructions
- Clean and degrease surfaces (e.g., with Permabond Cleaner A), roughen slightly if necessary.
- Apply adhesive in a ring shape to the bushing or shaft.
- Assemble parts with a slight twisting motion.
- Curing takes place anaerobically in the absence of air.
- For inactive metals (e.g., stainless steel, zinc, aluminum) or large gaps: Use Permabond A905 activator or heat the bond.
- Use thixotropic products for large components to prevent dripping.
- Do not allow adhesive to get into ball bearings or moving mechanisms.
