Permabond® 4UV80 – UV-curing adhesive for medical devices

Permabond® 4UV80 is a single-component, fast-curing UV adhesive that has been specially developed for the requirements of medical technology. It is characterized by its excellent adhesion to common plastics and metals and is ISO10993-certified (cytotoxicity tested). Thanks to its high shear strength and fast curing under UV light, this adhesive is ideal for the mass production of medical devices.

The formulation is solvent-free (100% solids) and ensures a clear, strong bond after curing. In addition, Permabond® 4UV80 is sterilization resistant (EtO and gamma) and therefore suitable for repeated sterilization cycles.

product features

  • Single-component, UV-curing methacrylate ester
  • Fast curing with UV lamps (365–400 nm)
  • High shear strength (>9 MPa on polycarbonate and ABS)
  • Excellent adhesion to medical plastics and metals
  • 100% solids content, no solvents
  • ISO 10993 certified (cytotoxicity tested)
  • Temperature resistance: -55 °C to +80 °C (higher temperatures for short periods)
  • UV fluorescent for easy quality control (optionally available without fluorescence)

Suitable materials

  • Polycarbonate (PC)
  • Acrylic (PMMA)
  • Polyvinyl chloride (PVC, rigid and flexible)
  • ABS
  • Various metals

Typical areas of application

  • Bonding of medical devices and instruments
  • Assembly of plastic and metal components in medical technology
  • Applications requiring repeated sterilization cycles (EtO and gamma)
  • Equipment manufacturing in the laboratory and diagnostics sector

Processing instructions

  1. Thoroughly clean, dry, and degrease surfaces.
  2. Apply adhesive with pinpoint accuracy (automated dosing possible).
  3. Cure with UV light (365–400 nm) – the curing time depends on the lamp power, distance, and material permeability.
  4. Pre-treatment is recommended for plastics that are difficult to bond (e.g., PP, PE).
  5. Storage: 5–25 °C in original container
