Product description
LOCTITE 586 is a high-performance, red liquid sealant based on dimethacrylate ester, which has been specially developed for sealing and securing metallic threaded connections. Anaerobic curing takes place in the absence of air between closely fitting metal surfaces and ensures a permanent, immediately tight connection. LOCTITE 586 is particularly suitable for applications requiring high pressure, temperature, and media resistance, such as in hydraulic systems, sanitary, heating, or industrial installations.
The medium-viscosity formula makes it easy to apply and reliably fills even fine thread gaps. Thanks to its fluorescent properties, quality control under UV light is particularly easy. After assembly, LOCTITE 586 provides immediate sealing against low pressures, with maximum media and pressure resistance achieved after full cure (24 hours).
The product offers excellent chemical and temperature resistance up to 150 °C and remains permanently stable even when exposed to engine oil, gasoline, brake fluid, ethanol, acetone, and water/glycol. LOCTITE 586 can be removed using standard hand tools; local heating is recommended for very large or tight connections.

Processing instructions
- Preparation: Clean the thread with LOCTITE cleaner and allow to dry.
- Activator (optional): Use activator 7471/7649 for inactive metals or large gaps.
- Application: Apply the product in a ring shape to the start of the thread, leaving the first thread free, and also to the female thread if necessary.
- Assembly: Tighten screw connection with tool. Immediate sealing effect against low pressures, full resistance after 24 hours.
- Disassembly: Using hand tools; for very tight connections, heat (approx. 250 °C).
- Cleaning: Remove hardened residues with solvent and a wire brush.
Note: LOCTITE 586 offers maximum security when sealing metal threads, but is not suitable for oxygen systems, chlorine, or plastics.
