LOCTITE 542 – Medium-strength thread sealant for fine metal threads and pipe fittings
Product description
LOCTITE 542 is a low-viscosity, single-component sealant based on dimethacrylate ester, which has been specially developed for securing and sealing fine metal threads, fittings, and pipe screw connections. Anaerobic curing begins on contact with metal and in the absence of air between tightly fitting threaded surfaces. This creates a permanent, vibration- and pressure-resistant bond that reliably prevents even the smallest leaks and the screw connection from loosening on its own.
Thanks to its thixotropic consistency, LOCTITE 542 adheres precisely to the thread after application, preventing it from running and ensuring even distribution in the thread gap. The product offers medium strength locking, allowing connections to be loosened with standard hand tools if necessary. LOCTITE 542 is resistant to numerous chemicals, oils, fuels, coolants, and brake fluids, and remains reliably sealed even under temperature fluctuations or heavy loads.
The brown liquid sealant is particularly suitable for use in hydraulic and pneumatic systems, in industry, in mechanical engineering, and in plant construction as a whole. Thanks to its versatile compatibility and ease of use, LOCTITE 542 is an indispensable product for any professional maintenance and installation of metal pipes and fittings.

- Maintenance and servicing of industrial plants
- Applications in heating, sanitary, and refrigeration systems
-
Sealing threaded fittings and brass screw connections
Processing instructions
- Preparation: Thoroughly clean and dry the thread (e.g., with LOCTITE cleaner); for passive surfaces, use an activator (e.g., LOCTITE 7471 or 7649) if necessary.
- Application: Apply the product in a 360° ring shape to the start of the external thread (leaving the first thread free), and to the internal thread if necessary.
- Assembly: Screw in the screw connection as usual and tighten with a tool.
- Sealing effect: Immediate sealing effect against low pressures, complete chemical and mechanical resistance after 24 hours.
- Disassembly: Can be loosened using standard hand tools; for larger threads, heat locally if necessary (approx. 250 °C).
- Cleaning: Cured product can be removed by soaking in solvent and mechanical removal.
Note: LOCTITE 542 has been specially developed for metal threads and is not suitable for use on plastic or non-metal threads.
