LOCTITE 270 – High-strength threadlocker for permanent metal joints
LOCTITE 270 is the preferred choice when screw connections need to be permanently and permanently secured. This high-strength threadlocker is ideal for use on bolts, studs, threaded rods, nuts, and other metal fasteners where reliable protection against loosening due to shock, vibration, or high stress is required. Thanks to its low viscosity, LOCTITE 270 penetrates thread gaps optimally and guarantees full-surface protection.
Anaerobic curing begins as soon as the adhesive is sealed off from the air between closely fitting metal surfaces. LOCTITE 270 achieves very high final strength—even on passive metals such as stainless steel, chrome-plated or zinc-plated surfaces, as well as on typical active metals such as brass and copper. Even slight surface contamination with oils (e.g., cutting, lubricating, or anti-corrosion oils) does not affect performance.
With a breaking strength of up to 33 Nm (M10 steel), excellent chemical and temperature resistance up to +150 °C, and NSF P1 approval for use in food-related production, LOCTITE 270 is ideal for machine and plant construction, automotive engineering, maintenance, and industrial assembly.

Suitable materials
LOCTITE® 270 is particularly suitable for use with:
- Steel and stainless steel
- Brass and copper
- Passivated, coated, or galvanized metal surfaces
-
Not recommended for plastics (especially thermoplastics)
Typical areas of application
- Screw connections on motor and pump housings
- Stud bolts, threaded rods, bearing caps
- Nuts on stud bolts in heavily loaded areas
- Assemblies in mechanical and plant engineering
- Heavy-duty connections and fastenings in agricultural machinery, construction vehicles, and commercial vehicles
- Assembly of flange connections and flange bolts
- Maintenance and repair (e.g., dismantling safety device)
Processing instructions
- Preparation: Clean screw connections (e.g., with LOCTITE cleaner); slight oil residues are tolerated.
- Application: Apply the product to the male thread or, in the case of blind holes, directly into the hole.
- Assembly: Install the screw connection immediately and tighten to the desired torque.
- Curing time: Handleable after approx. 10–30 minutes, final strength after 24 hours.
- Disassembly: Connection can only be broken by heating to approx. 250 °C and then loosening with tools.
- Cleaning: Hardened residues can be removed mechanically (e.g., wire brush) and by soaking in solvent.
Anaerobic threadlockers can prevent parts from loosening due to vibration and leaks, protect threaded parts from corrosion, and increase the reliability of mechanical fasteners.
The standard range for continuous operating temperatures for anaerobic adhesives is -55 °C to +150 °C. High-performance products with higher temperature resistance are also available for specific application conditions. Please contact the SILITECH team for details on availability and product selection.
Yes, anaerobic adhesives cure into highly resistant thermosetting polymers and are therefore suitable for a wide range of applications. Find out more online in our product resources or contact us for further information.
SILITECH offers various products with NSF® and WRAS® approvals in different classes. Please contact us with your specific requirements so that we can work together to find the best solution for you.
Yes, all of these products are anaerobic adhesives and function in a similar manner. Due to variations in adhesive properties (viscosity, gap-filling ability, strength, etc.), they are better suited for certain applications. For more information, please refer to the technical product data sheets or contact a Henkel representative.
Caution should be exercised when using adhesives for sealing in systems containing pure oxygen. LOCTITE 577 and LOCTITE 55 are BAM-approved and can be used for such applications.
All necessary health and safety measures and PPE (personal protective equipment) requirements are listed in the product's material safety data sheet.
