LOCTITE 222 – Low-strength, purple threadlocker for precise small connections up to M6
LOCTITE 222 permanently secures and seals small threads up to M6 against vibration, but can still be loosened with hand tools at any time.
Product description
LOCTITE 222 is the proven, low-strength threadlocker for all situations where screws with a diameter of up to 6.35 mm (¼″) need to be protected against vibration but can be loosened quickly and without special tools during maintenance work. The anaerobic formula only cures when sealed off from the air between two metal surfaces – ideal for adjusting, countersinking, and set screws in sensitive assemblies.
The thixotropic consistency reliably prevents the adhesive from migrating to adjacent components and enables clean application even in overhead positions. Thanks to special chemically matched activators, LOCTITE 222 even adheres to passive metals such as stainless steel, anodized aluminum, or nickel-plated surfaces—even if thin corrosion protection oils are still present.
With a breakaway torque of around 6 Nm and a breakaway torque of approx. 4 Nm, the adhesive guarantees a secure bond without making disassembly difficult. Its temperature resistance from -55 °C to +150 °C makes LOCTITE 222 an all-rounder in machine, apparatus, and vehicle construction as well as in precision engineering. NSF P1 certification also allows it to be used in sensitive environments in the food, pharmaceutical, and beverage industries.

Processing instructions
- Preparation: Remove coarse dirt and oil from the thread; thin preservative films do not interfere.
- Instructions: Apply a drop of LOCTITE 222 to the center of the male thread; for blind holes, also apply to the bottom of the hole.
- Assembly: Join components together and tighten to the specified torque.
- Initial strength: after approx. 20 minutes (steel); final strength after 24 hours.
- Disassembly: Loosen the screw using standard hand tools; if parts are stuck, heat them gently (≈ 150 °C).
- Cleaning: Remove residues with LOCTITE cleaner or acetone.
