BLUESIL RTV 34xx Series – addition-curing mold-making silicones with a range of hardness levels

The BLUESIL RTV 34xx family is Elkem’s range of two-component, polyaddition-curing silicone elastomers for mold making and prototyping. All variants are platinum-cured and cure at room temperature without off-gassing —the mold shrinks only minimally (0.1%), the material is chemically and thermally resistant, and the detail resolution is in the submicrometer range.

The key difference between the variants is the Shore A hardness, which ranges from 12 (very soft, for pad printing pads) to 50 (hard, for durable production molds). Choose the appropriate variant based on your application:

VariantShore Apot lifeDemoldmain use

RTV 34454560 min24 hoursmedium-hard, lower mixing viscosity

Materials that can be cast include plaster, wax, polyester, polyurethane, epoxy, low-melting-point metals, and many other casting materials.

What's in this container?

Base component A (viscous liquid). Mix with catalyst B in a ratio of 100:10. 25 kg bucket of base component.

BLUESIL RTV 3440 in detail

BLUESIL RTV 3440 is the Shore A 40 variant with an outstanding feature: demolding is possible after just 6 hours at room temperature. This cuts the production cycle time in half compared to many other molding silicones, making RTV 3440 the top choice for high-volume production in a single-day cycle. Mixing viscosity 15,000 mPa·s, pot life 90 min—enough time for larger molds.

Typical applications

  • Plaster, wax, polyester, and low-melting-point metal castings
  • Paced production with 2–3 cycles per day per mold
  • Rugged, versatile applications in the medium-hard range

Inhibition Warning

Platinum-cured RTVs are inhibited in trace amounts by:

  • Natural or synthetic rubber containing sulfur (natural rubber, NBR, neoprene gloves)
  • Metal-salt-catalyzed condensation RTV (tin)
  • Tin-stabilized PVC
  • Epoxides cured with amines
  • Certain organic solvents (ketones, alcohols, ethers)

Practical advice: Set aside a separate venting chamber for addition-cure RTV; if in doubt, conduct a preliminary test at a test site.

storage

Can be stored for up to 12 months in unopened original packaging at temperatures between −10°C and +30°C.

BLUESIL RTV 3440 A (25 kg) is supplied by SILITECH AG with technical support, a batch certificate, and shipping from our Swiss warehouse within 24 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions About BLUESIL RTV 3440 A (25 kg)

Answers regarding the application and processing of BLUESIL RTV 3440 A (25 kg).

Addition-cure silicones (platinum) cross-link without producing by-products, resulting in minimal shrinkage (0.1%) and high dimensional stability. Condensation-cure RTV silicones shrink significantly more (0.4–1.2%). Addition-cure silicones are the first choice for dimensionally accurate prototypes and production molds.

Check the substrate before pouring: Contact with sulfur, tin, amines, or certain solvents will halt the curing process. Conduct a preliminary test using a small test strip to be sure. A separate venting chamber for addition-cure RTV reduces cross-contamination.

Yes, using heat up to a maximum of 60°C to minimize shrinkage. Higher temperatures significantly shorten the pot life and can cause dimensional changes—for precise shapes, room-temperature curing is preferred.
