BLUESIL RTV 3041 – highly transparent addition-cure silicone for highly detailed 3D reproduction
BLUESIL RTV 3041 A&B is a two-component, addition-curing silicone elastomer that cures at room temperature to form a transparent, elastic vulcanizate with excellent mechanical properties. Curing is exotherm-free (no heat generation during curing)—an important consideration when casting sensitive master models.
The formulation is optimized for the reproduction of three-dimensional objects: polyurethane, waxes, foams, epoxy, polyester, and similar reactive resins can be cast multiple times using the same mold. Its high transparency allows for monitoring of the casting process and the detection of air bubbles before curing.
What's in this container?
This container contains the base component RTV 3041 A E5 (50,000 mPa·s, transparent and viscous). Mix with catalyst 3041 B or 3041 SB B in a 10:1 ratio.
Two catalytic converter variants
| catalyst | Shore A | Tensile | Tear | property |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3041 B (Standard) | 38 | 5.5 MPa | 22 N/mm | harder, more durable |
| 3041 SB B (Self-Bleeding) | 35 | 5.1 MPa | 18 N/mm | softer, slowly releases oil |
Typical applications
- Reproduction of figurines and sculptures in wax, polyurethane, epoxy, or polyester
- Architectural models with fine details (facade relief, urban design elements)
- Small-batch production of components based on CNC-machined or 3D-printed originals
- Jewelry Prototyping (Wax Models for Goldsmiths)
- Moldings of art-historical objects for museums and historic preservation
processing
- Mix the base and catalyst in a 10:1 ratio (by weight)—either by hand or using a slow-speed mixer to minimize air entrapment
- Vent at 30–50 mbar: The mixture expands 3–4 times its original volume, forms bubbles, and subsides after 5–10 minutes. Briefly interrupting the vacuum 1–2 times accelerates the process
- Pouring by gravity or under light pressure
- Aushärten bei 23 °C (< 24 h entformbar) oder beschleunigt durch Wärme (max. 150 °C)
Curing time: 75 minutes at 23°C – more than enough for complex casting geometries.
Avoid inhibition
Like all platinum-cured RTVs, RTV 3041 is inhibited by sulfur-containing rubbers (natural rubber with sulfur vulcanization), tin-catalyzed RTVs, tin-stabilized PVC, and amine-cured epoxies. If in doubt, cure a small test sample on a test surface.
Storage and Containers
When stored in unopened original packaging at temperatures between −10°C and +30°C, the product has a shelf life of up to 12 months from the date of manufacture. Base A is available in 20-kg buckets and 200-kg drums; Catalyst B is available in 20-kg canisters and smaller containers.
BLUESIL RTV 3041 is supplied by SILITECH AG with technical support, a batch certificate, and shipping from our Swiss warehouse within 24 hours.
Frequently Asked Questions About BLUESIL RTV 3041 A E5
Answers regarding the application, catalyst selection, and processing of BLUESIL RTV 3041 A E5.
Both are transparent addition-cure silicones for mold making—but RTV 3040 is specifically formulated for PU resistance (it withstands the mechanical stress of PU casting resins), while RTV 3041 is optimized for excellent mechanical properties and universal 3D reproduction. RTV 3041 has a higher elongation at break (350% vs. 340%) and is also suitable for wax, epoxy, and polyester—not just PU.
The standard version (3041 B) is harder and more durable—choose it for molds that are subject to mechanical stress or must withstand many castings. The self-bleeding version (3041 SB B) slowly releases silicone oil to the surface—ideal for resins that are difficult to demold, such as PU with high tack.
Yes – through heat treatment up to 150°C. At 80°C, RTV 3041 cures to its final strength in 60 minutes. The mechanical properties remain identical to those of the RT vulcanizate, but dimensional changes must be taken into account – RT curing is preferred for precise molds.
Yes. RTV 3041 cures into a highly transparent elastomer —this allows for visual inspection of the embedded master model after molding, detection of air bubbles before curing, and visually appealing molds for visible applications such as demo prototypes.
