BLUESIL FLD 47V 300,000 – linear polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) silicone oil
BLUESIL FLD 47V 300,000 is part of Elkem’s 47V series— linear polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS) with defined viscosities. These silicone oils are non-reactive, remain stable for decades, and are used in dozens of industrial applications—as thermal oils, dielectrics, release agents, lubricants, paint additives, and water repellents.
The viscosity of 300,000 mm²/s (cSt) determines the application profile: low viscosities (V50–V350) are suitable for spray/wipe applications, anti-scratch additives, and high-frequency dielectrics; medium viscosities (V500–V5000) for thermostat applications and lubrication; high viscosities (V12500+) for thick-film coatings and mechanically stressed bearing lubrications.
Main areas of application
- Thermostatic oil for heat exchangers – stable from −50°C to +200°C
- Dielectric oil for capacitor impregnation and transformers
- Anti-smudge agent for preventing toner smudging in photocopiers and printers
- Thinners/plasticizers for RTV silicones and silicone sealants
- Textile lubrication and heat protection for synthetic sewing threads
- Ingredient in care products: polishes, waxes, floor and furniture polishes
- Color additives: anti-cratering, anti-fish-eye, anti-scratch effects
- Water repellency of powders (for paints, plastics) and glass fibers
- Release agent for plastic and metal molds
- Lubrication of elastomer/plastic on metal
- Surfactant for styrene-butadiene foams

Frequently Asked Questions About BLUESIL FLD 47V 300,000
Questions about polydimethylsiloxane silicone oil with a viscosity of 300,000 cSt
PDMS is a synthetic silicone oil with a repeating Si-O-Si chain as its backbone. Unlike mineral oils, it is: significantly more thermally stable (up to +200°C without decomposition), chemically inert (no reaction with oxygen or ozone), more temperature-independent in viscosity (viscosity index > 200 vs. ~100 for mineral oils), and has a very low surface tension (21 vs. 25–30 mN/m). However, it is more expensive.
Rule of thumb: V50–V100 for spraying and high-frequency dielectrics; V300–V1,000 for most industrial applications (thermostats, lubrication, release agents); V5,000–V30,000 for thick-film coatings and mechanically stressed bearings; V100,000+ for special applications with very long dwell times or extreme shear stress. If in doubt, we at SILITECH would be happy to advise you.
Yes—but no more than 10% by weight of the base component. Any more than that noticeably impairs the final properties (Shore hardness, tensile strength). The additive is unproblematic only in platinum-catalyzed addition-curing RTVs —in condensation-curing (tin-catalyzed) RTVs, larger amounts can also be added, but adhesion to substrates decreases.
When stored in its unopened original packaging at temperatures between −20 and +50°C, the oil remains stable for 36 months —a very long shelf life. The reason: PDMS is chemically inert and does not degrade due to exposure to atmospheric oxygen. After opening, the container should be kept sealed to prevent contamination. The viscosity remains virtually constant throughout the entire storage period.
