Permabond® A1058 – High-viscosity thread sealant for metal pipe connections, WRAS certified
Permabond® A1058 is a high-viscosity, anaerobic sealant specially developed for the permanent sealing of metallic pipe thread connections. It is suitable for parallel and tapered threads from 3/8" BSP and provides immediate pressure sealing, minimizing downtime and speeding up assembly processes.
Unlike conventional sealants such as PTFE tape or hemp, Permabond® A1058 does not dry out or decompose, ensuring a long-lasting, secure bond. Thanks to its delayed curing, components can be precisely aligned before setting.
The product is characterized by high chemical resistance and is WRAS listed – Approved for use in drinking water systems. With its high torque and shear strength, Permabond® A1058 provides reliable protection and extends the service life of pipe systems.
product features
- Anaerobic sealant for metal pipe threads
- Suitable for parallel and tapered threads > 3/8" BSP
- Viscosity: 300,000 mPa·s at 25 °C – ideal for larger threads (up to M56 / 2")
- Immediate pressure sealing – up to the burst pressure of the pipe
-
Curing time:
– Handling strength: approx. 90 minutes (M10 steel, 23 °C)
– Functional strength: 2–4 hours
– Final strength: 72 hours -
Torque resistance (M10 steel, ISO 10964):
– Breakaway torque: 8 N·m
– Continuing torque: 6 N·m - Shear strength (ISO 10123, steel): 8 MPa
- Chemical resistant (oils, fuels, water, ethanol, brake fluid, etc.)
- WRAS listed – approved for drinking water
- Temperature resistant from –55 °C to over 200 °C (for short periods)
Suitable materials
- Steel (unalloyed and galvanized)
- Stainless steel (note passivated surfaces)
- brass
- Copper and copper alloys
- zinc
Typical areas of application
- Sealing metal pipe threads in gas and liquid systems
- Drinking water pipes (WRAS certified)
- Industrial piping and hydraulic systems
- Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
- Mechanical and plant engineering
- Oil and fuel lines
Processing instructions
- Clean and degrease the surface (e.g. Permabond Cleaner A)
- Apply adhesive as a continuous bead to the external thread (leaving 1–2 threads free at the end).
- Screw the components together and align them correctly.
- Wipe off any excess adhesive. The adhesive hardens anaerobically inside the thread, while any excess outside remains liquid.
- For faster curing on inactive metals (e.g., stainless steel, zinc, aluminum), use Permabond Activator A905.
- Ensure complete curing before use (2–72 hours depending on material and temperature).
