processing

1
Clean surfaces
Ensure that bonding surfaces are clean, dry, and free of grease—degrease them with Permabond Cleaner A. Lightly sand the aluminum to remove any oxidation.
2
Mix components A and B
For dual-component cartridges: Attach the mixing nozzle (— volume ratio). For larger containers, weigh the components precisely and mix thoroughly until no streaks are visible.
3
Apply adhesive + join components
Apply the mixed adhesive to one of the surfaces to be bonded, then press the parts together firmly.
4
Secure components during curing
Use a clamping device or clamp. Ensure that the item is secure before moving it.
5
Curing at room temperature
Final strength is typically achieved after 24 hours at 23 °C. Exposure to heat accelerates curing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Permabond TA 4522

Practical questions regarding application and design — answered by SILITECH.

Toughened Acrylic — 21–23 N/mm² steel, balanced processing profile.

MMA structural adhesives in the TA series typically use a no-mix process: apply the initiator to one surface and the adhesive to the other—when the two are joined, the initiator activates the adhesive. Mixing ratio: —. Handleable strength after 2–10 minutes; full strength after 24 hours at 23 °C.

MMA structural adhesives (methyl methacrylate) offer higher impact and peel resistance than traditional two-component epoxies—a key factor for bonds subjected to dynamic loads. The no-mix application method, which uses a separate initiator, eliminates pot life limitations. Curing time is typically faster (minutes instead of hours).

Permabond TA4522 provides a reliable bond: Steel: 21–23 N/mm². Substrate failure is common with polycarbonate and PVC (the bond is stronger than the material).

Permabond TA4522 does not have any specific aerospace approvals, unlike TA4246 (Boeing/Airbus). For industrial applications without aerospace requirements, the product is approved according to Permabond standards.

Permabond TA4522 is a toughened acrylic adhesive — 21–23 N/mm² for steel (— mixed). Permabond TA452 is a premium adhesive with a strength of 28–32 N/mm² (—) — higher strength.

From the Permabond MMA series: Permabond TA4522 (Toughened Acrylic — 21–23 N/mm² on steel); Permabond TA452 (Premium 28–32); Permabond TA 4550 (High Strength 27–30); Permabond TA 4611 (Toughened Acrylic). For Aerospace Premium, see TA4246 (Boeing+Airbus approved). For maximum industrial strength without an aerospace surcharge, see TA452.
